I am a qualified freelance proofreader and an Intermediate Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP). I am a native British English speaker. I have experience of proofreading for businesses, publishers and students.
I have an excellent business knowledge gained through a business degree and nearly 20 years of working as an accountant in smaller companies. In a small business flexibility is essential, so I helped to write and check financial and management reports, board reports, tenders and proposals. I also wrote software training manuals and variance and budget reports. I was often called upon to review board reports, tenders and proposals for accuracy, consistency, grammar and spelling. Since becoming a freelance proofreader in July 2015, I have proofread training manuals, books, websites and academic documents covering a wide range of subjects.
I am a voracious reader with a very inquisitive nature so have an extensive general knowledge. While I love relaxing with crime fiction, thrillers and historical novels I also enjoy a wide range of non-fiction including natural history, biographies, autobiographies and 20th Century history, principally related to the Russian Revolution, Second World War and the Iron Curtain.
I love the outdoors. I have been sailing dragons competitively since 1996, both locally and internationally. I also enjoy long distance walking. I have participated in a five day trek in the Lares Valley, Peru, some walking in Kamchatka, and a number of long distance challenges in this country including a 26 mile fundraising walk along Hadrian’s Wall and a very soggy 20 kilometre walk along the Thames Path. Outside sailing season, I am often tramping up hills in Derbyshire, or slowly working my way through two to three day sections of many of the long distance trails in England.
I am a keen traveller, particularly off the beaten track. My most memorable holidays include dog sledding in Finland, ice caving in Iceland, skiing in Banff, and a day out on Lake Titicaca in Peru. My enjoyment of travel is carried over into my cooking as I am an excellent cook and love experimenting with new recipes, particularly those which remind me of my travels.
